Week 4: Preschool and Kindergarten Internet Sites
Only a few years ago, there were virtually no Internet sites for preschool and kindergarten children. There is still some question as to how much computer use is beneficial to young children, but what is certain is that there are now many more options tailored toward young children. A number of excellent sites have sprung up, as well as children's search engines that filter out bad sites. (Some of these are listed in Week 1.) The sites that are listed below have several things in common--they are colorful and simple. Several have sound added. Give some of them a try to see what the sites hold-- including games, stories, and songs. How appropriate are they for preschoolers and kindergartners? Are they valuable for learning and play, or are they confusing and hard to use? Your assignment is to look up some of these sites, and then rate the ones you find especially valuable (or especially poor!)

We will spend some time constructing an online lesson on Blackboard.com. Be thinking about what elements you would like in the site you construct from the list below:
- Syllabus
- Faculty Information
- Course Material
- Assignments
- Resources
- Communication (Group & Individual Email, Bulletin Board, Virtual Classroom)
- Student Tools (Drop Box, Calendar, Grades, Student Page)
Email Assignment
Email me at least three websites that you find especially helpful for preschool and kindergarten, (you may use any references mentioned above,) along with a short review on how you might use it if you were teaching that grade level. (Right-click the http: address in the browser, click "Copy," and then right click and "Paste" into the email.) I will post these reviews on the next week's page.
