Graphs

Graphs, or spreadsheet charts, are very useful representations of information that has been entered into a spreadsheet such as Excel. The input into the spreadsheet is called a "Data Set" and usually includes at least one set that serves as a descriptive and the other as the numerical information. In the example below the data sets are the years and the test score percentages.

Charts created from data sets can be columnar, pie-shaped, or linear. Excel provides a chart wizard that simplifies most of the tasks.

Your assignment is to create data sets appropriate to an elementary classroom, such as individual student learning gains, in a spreadsheet such as Excel. From this you can create a graph (bar, line, circle) to illustrate the data. Provide a key explaining your graph.

To make a simple spreadsheet in Excel like the one above, open up Excel 2000 and enter at least two rows of data. For the years I have included more than just numbers, otherwise the graph compares the two number sets instead of having one x and one y axis (horizontal and vertical).
