Commercial Image Editing Software: (most have free trial downloads)A photo editor is serious software made for adjusting images. With it you can crop, resize, correct for color, brightness and contrast, add text, sharpen, remove blemishes and scratches, change file formats and resolution, and prepare for printing or the web.
Adobe Photoshop - The Big Daddy of photo editors. $650 retail, $300 with an academic discount, and $130 through http://www.oetc.org on a purchase order through the 8C school district (Bob Nelson is the contact person)

Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 - highly rated, costing about $99, this program includes some of Photoshop's powerful photo editing filters and effects, while incorporating the Photoshop Album cataloguing and organizing software so you can find your images.
Corel Paint Shop Pro and Paint Shop Pro Album - a time-tested alternative to Photoshop, for about $100. The Album software, which sells for less, has some photo editing tools, edges, frames, scrapbooking ideas and CD burning tools. Jasc is now a subsidiary of Corel.
Ulead Photo Impact - A full-featured photo editor with an image browser and easy effects, helpful in making images for the web. Ulead Photo Express is often included with digital cameras.
Corel Photo Paint - Part of the Corel Graphics Suite
Serif Photo Plus - The low price leader, easy to use and with surprising features. Serif is coming out with new titles all the time.
Microsoft Digital Imaging - A large program with many options. It comes with Microsoft Home Office.
Arcsoft - Arcsoft offers a number of easy-to-use and low price titles for use with photo editing, including Photo Studio.
Photo Suite- Once MGI, Photo Suite now belongs to Roxio. Another low-cost photo editing suite with additional project content such as frames and cards.
