Remember, your camera's manual is packed with information, not only on how to install the software and properly care for your camera, but what the all the settings mean and how to frame good shots.
Using your camera's "Auto" setting will generally give you good pictures under most conditions. But as you become more acquainted with how your camera responds to fast action, low light, bright ambient light, etc., you may want to be able to make your own adjustments to how the picture will turn out.
