Camera Pricing

Digital camera prices are usually linked to the number of megapixels as well as features such as:

  • optical zoom (as opposed to digital zoom)
  • lens quality
  • interchangeable lenses
  • manual control of flash
  • focal length

One-megapixel and less cameras are available for less than $50, while 2, 3 and 4- MP cameras may correspond to roughly $50 - $100 per megapixel, depending on manufacturer and other features. As newer, more powerful cameras are introduced, higher-megapixel cameras (5, 6, 7 and up) become available at lower prices.
