Color Correction

Once your photo has been corrected for brightness and contrast, you may want to take a look at what color correction can do. You can use the Color Balance sliders, which allow you to adjust colors between the complementary values of Cyan/Red, Magenta/Green, and Yellow/Blue.

Or you can try the Curves adjustment, pictured below. Since this method can result in rather bizarre color shadings, be careful of how you use it! A fine adjustment can go a long way. You can select individual color channels in Red, Green and Blue to work on separately from the others.

Once Curves are mastered, you can apply fine control to your color balance.

To the left is a picture taken in a low light setting without a white balance adjustment. It looks as if there is a reddish wash over the entire picture.

After correcting for oversaturation, and applying Color Balance and Curves for color correction, the picture to the right shows a more accurate reflection of the color in the room.
