Battery Types
Digital cameras drain batteries quickly. Most low-end cameras can accommodate rechargeable AA batteries, but it is best to get the new 15-minute rechargeable type made especially for digital cameras, since other rechargeables can take hours to recharge.
Some cameras can be recharged through an additional camera “dock” that functions as an image downloader and charger. Other cameras are equipped with internal rechargers, allowing you to plug in an adapter to the camera and into an outlet in order to recharge the battery inside. Be careful, though—this is not usually the case if the camera uses rechargeable AA's!
Higher-end cameras tend to use proprietary, or manufacturer-specific, batteries that use proprietary chargers. Although this may be more expensive up front, these batteries tend to last longer than the AA rechargeables.
A good camera takes about 100 photos with a single charge as long as other factors, such as built-in flash and extended use of the LCD screen, are not allowed to drain battery power. It is best to have enough batteries and chargers on hand so that one set is recharging while the other set is being used.
